Make Sure It’s A Fit!

Accurate measurements are the keys to a great fit. At Moondoggie, we will gladly do all that we can to assure that the items that you purchase for your dog(s) are appropriately sized, so that they are comfortable for your dog(s) to wear and look terrific!

How To Measure Your Dog

IMPORTANT: Do NOT add your own fingers into your measurements.

If you provide us with the ACTUAL measurements of your dog, we will make adjustments for comfort and fit, based on what we know about the way an item is sized by the manufacturer.

If possible, take measurements using a soft measuring tape. If you do not have one handy, you can use a piece of ribbon or string, and then measure that length against a standard ruler. Have your dog in a relaxed, standing position with his/her head up (rather than looking at the ground). Once you have your measurement, measure again. It is important that you measure at least twice, to be sure that you are getting the same measurement each time.

NECK (A) Measure all the way around the widest part of your dog’s neck (where the collar is most likely to rest).

GIRTH (B) Measure all the way around the widest part of your dog’s body. This is generally right behind his/her front legs. Be sure to keep the measuring tape in line around your dog’s body as you measure.

TOPLINE (C ) Measure from the base of your dog’s neck (where the collar rests) to the base of his/her tail. Make sure that you do NOT include the length of the tail into the measurement.

HEAD (D) Measure all the way around your dog’s head at the point in-between the eyes and the ears.

WEIGHT Your best estimate is fine. Some manufacturers size by weight, so it will help us to have this information. Knowing your dog’s weight will also be necessary for correct SHOE SIZING.
